Designing a custom website is often a time consuming process, since website content has become very important, effective and creative writing have become much more important than having slick looking graphics.
Ten years ago, most websites used more graphics than text, these days you need more text and unique content than you need graphics, in fact if your website does not meet with these requirements, you might find that you site will not be effectively listed with the large search engines.
Getting your website listed with search engines can be a daunting task, you need the right keywords, you need the right programming, you need the right content, putting all this together is often like baking a cake, you need to work with the right recipe.
Predictions for the future...
We learn from the past, at least we should be learning, if you look at the trends of the past five years you can see a clear indication of what the role of the Internet will be for the future.
Here is an example, recently I needed a professional microphone to replace the one I have been using since 1999, it was a good microphone and it worked well for many years, but it was time to get a new one, I began to look around town for a replacement and found that all the local retail locations just did not have what I wanted, all of them said that they could order it online, but the pricing was a little high.
Except for one location, they had their own website and the price was right.
The moral of this story is clear, business owners that have a website will be in a position to compete, there were several retail shops that offered microphones in town, the pricing was over the top, I ended up making a purchase online.
The item was delivered by FedEx, case closed.
There seems to be a missconception among business owners that somehow the Internet is still just a fad and there is no real need to have a website, this is a dangerous way to consider the future, it could mean the difference between making a profit and just breaking even.
In the future business will discover the need for more employees in the back room packaging Internet sales for shipment than in the front room standing behind a cash register, that may seem hard to imagine and for the immediate future most business are not likely to see much of a change, however those businesses that take the time to begin learning what is needed in order to compete online, will have the advantage while their competitors are still learning the ropes and trying to compete in a new business model.
Finding ways to shift resources from one area of management to another, looking into a newer method of using employees, training those employees to use the computer, sending and receiving email, learning how to use the website correctly.
Learn what it takes to get your website online now, you really cannot afford to be left behind when the time comes to shift your business online.
If you read the handwriting on the wall today you will sleep much better in the future... |
